Description

These Chocolate Chip Scones are a delightful blend of flaky texture and sweet chocolate goodness. With minimal prep and flavorful ingredients, they are perfect for any occasion, whether for brunch or a cozy evening treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-4 tbsp milk
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup butter, cold
  • 1/2 cup + 2 tbsp heavy cream
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 cup mini-chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a food processor, combine the flour, packed brown sugar, baking powder, and salt. Pulse until mixed.
  3. Cut the cold butter into cubes and add to the flour mixture. Pulse until mostly integrated.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the heavy cream and vanilla.
  5. Pour the cream mixture over the flour and butter blend, pulsing until the mixture begins to bind together.
  6. Transfer the mixture to a floured countertop and sprinkle the mini-chocolate chips over the dough. Gently combine until it forms a disc shape. Fold the dough over itself, turning it 90 degrees and folding again. Repeat this process four more times.
  7. Shape the dough into a disc and cut it into 8 wedges.
  8. Place the wedges on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them out.
  9. Bake in the oven for 13 minutes.
  10. Allow the scones to cool, then whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to create icing.
  11. Drizzle the icing over the scones and let it set.

Notes

For a richer flavor, try using dark chocolate chips instead of mini chocolate chips.
Scones are best served fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for a couple of days.
Feel free to adjust the sweetness of the icing by adding more or less powdered sugar.
