Description
These Chocolate Chip Scones are a delightful blend of flaky texture and sweet chocolate goodness. With minimal prep and flavorful ingredients, they are perfect for any occasion, whether for brunch or a cozy evening treat.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2-4 tbsp milk
- 1/4 tsp vanilla
- 2 cups flour
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup butter, cold
- 1/2 cup + 2 tbsp heavy cream
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 1/2 cup mini-chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a food processor, combine the flour, packed brown sugar, baking powder, and salt. Pulse until mixed.
- Cut the cold butter into cubes and add to the flour mixture. Pulse until mostly integrated.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the heavy cream and vanilla.
- Pour the cream mixture over the flour and butter blend, pulsing until the mixture begins to bind together.
- Transfer the mixture to a floured countertop and sprinkle the mini-chocolate chips over the dough. Gently combine until it forms a disc shape. Fold the dough over itself, turning it 90 degrees and folding again. Repeat this process four more times.
- Shape the dough into a disc and cut it into 8 wedges.
- Place the wedges on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them out.
- Bake in the oven for 13 minutes.
- Allow the scones to cool, then whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to create icing.
- Drizzle the icing over the scones and let it set.
Notes
For a richer flavor, try using dark chocolate chips instead of mini chocolate chips.
Scones are best served fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for a couple of days.
Feel free to adjust the sweetness of the icing by adding more or less powdered sugar.
