- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable or canola oil
- 3 large eggs
- 1½ teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- ⅔ cup (120g) semisweet chocolate chips
- ½ cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened
- ⅓ cup (35g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2⅓ cups (280g) powdered sugar
- 2-3 tablespoons milk
- ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a 9-inch round springform pan or round cake pan with parchment paper and grease it well.
- In a large microwave-safe bowl, combine the butter and brown sugar. Microwave in 20-second increments, stirring in between, until the butter melts.
- Let the melted butter and sugar mixture cool for about 5 minutes while preparing the dry ingredients.
- In another bowl, whisk together cocoa powder, flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- Whisk oil into the melted butter and sugar mixture, then add eggs and vanilla extract. Stir until well combined.
- Sprinkle the dry ingredients over the wet ingredients and whisk until just a few streaks of flour remain. Gently fold in the chocolate chips using a silicone spatula.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan, smooth the top, and bake for 32-38 minutes. Check for doneness with a toothpick; it should come out with moist fudgy crumbs. Allow the cake to cool completely on a wire rack.
