These Sour Cream Donuts are rich in flavor with a tender texture, made from simple ingredients like cake flour and sour cream. Perfect for breakfast or a sweet treat!

- 2¼ cups cake flour
- 2½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1 good pinch of salt
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled
- 1 egg
- 1 egg yolk
- ⅔ cup sour cream, + 1 tablespoon
- vegetable oil, for frying
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2-3 tablespoons of water
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix granulated sugar, melted butter, egg, egg yolk, and sour cream.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a sticky dough forms.
- Roll the dough to ¼-inch thickness on a floured surface and cut out donuts using a cutter.
- Transfer the donuts to a floured parchment paper. If necessary, make a hole in the center of each donut.
- Heat oil in a pot to 375ºF. Fry the donuts for 1-2 minutes per side, then drain on paper towels.
- In a small bowl, whisk powdered sugar with water to create a glaze.
- Drizzle or dip donuts in the glaze and place them on a wire rack until set.
Notes
Make sure the oil is at the right temperature to prevent soggy donuts.
Store any leftover donuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
